the last jedi

With ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ out on Blu-Ray and DVD this week (though it has been out on Digital a little bit longer than that), fans can finally treat themselves to all of the special features that accompany the home video release of a major motion picture these days (here’s hoping there’s a good amount and this one did not skimp as has been happening a lot lately with Blu-Rays). To help whet the appetite of fans and entice them into buying the Blu-Ray, Lucasfilm has release the Gag reel for ‘The Last Jedi’ online, which includes a hilarious bit of Carrie Fisher’s Princess (General) Leia slapping Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron for a dramatic scene between the pair, a slap which according to the video, happened over 41 times on set. You almost feel bad for Isaac, at least until you realize how much fun Fisher was probably having slapping the man over and over again.

Director Rian Johnson even weighed in on the Gag Reel slaps on Twitter, commenting that he is amazed Isaac was such a good sport about the whole thing whole:

Aside from all the slaps, the Gag Reel also includes a funny scene where BB-8 rolls into a scene with a smaller version of himself in tow, causing Kelly Marie Tran and John Boyega to break character as they spot the smaller, cuter version of their robotic co-star. It also has the usual assortment of goofy faces, random out of context comments (John Boyega claiming something was “hanging out of his bum” – most likely a rogue mic pack), and a strangely momentous moment where Mark Hamill, in his civilian clothes, climbs out of what appears to be a cockpit and exclaims “Thanks for the memories!,” which could serve as his final send-off from the franchise if anyone ever makes a documentary about Hamill’s contributions to ‘Star Wars.’

All in all, I know I have my copy of ‘The Last Jedi’ being shipped over, and I am excited to see what other special features are in store. For now, feel free to check out the Gag Reel for yourself below, and share your thoughts in the comments below!
