Rumors have been swirling as to what Michael Fassbender‘s Magneto would be up to in ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ and now we’ve learned a bit of his character as well as details on the previously rumored and now confirmed inclusion of Genosha in the film. In the original “The Dark Phoenix Saga” fans know that, like Mystique, Magneto had no connection to the story so it is interesting that both will be making appearances in the film.

A recent write up of the movie explains a bit more about Magneto which has him sounding more like he currently is in the comics and also explains the island of Genosha which is quite important to fans of the series and could be a great setup for a future story arc. Here is what we’ve learned from EW:

“A confused Jean turns to Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender), the rogue mutant who parted ways with the X-Men at the end of Apocalypse and now lives on an island named Genosha, a destination comic-book fans will recognize. “He’s set up this place for mutants that don’t have a home to go to,” Fassbender explains. “They have to work as a community, but it’s a safe place for them and they’ll be accepted.””

While this really makes it look as if Jean will be replacing Mystique’s role in ‘X-Men: First Class’ it does sound like a reason to bring him into the fold.

One of the early images from the film have already shown us that there will be a major death among those the mutants call a friend and if she loses control while Magneto is mentoring her, it could even be the Master of Magnetism himself that bites the bullet.

Genosha itself was a country which weaponized mutants that Magneto took over and made as a safe haven for anyone who had the mutant gene and has played a part in several major story arcs. Even if Erik Lensherr ends up dead, we could see this setting play a major part moving forward. Honestly, it would be great to see him survive and build up a nation of mutants following Magneto’s philosophy and putting him at odds with Professor X for one last outing.

Are you happy to hear that Genosha was officially confirmed for the film? Do you feel that Magneto’s inclusion is going to feel forced or does being an alternate mentor to Professor X make sense with what we know so far? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
