With all of the superheroes stories currently coming to screen in 2016 (both big and small), fans are starting to ask more and more questions about the upcoming projects, especially when they are following in the footsteps of sister shows that has been well received by fans and critics. In this case, we are talking about ‘Luke Cage,’ the series tasked with following ‘Jessica Jones‘ and ‘Daredevil‘ on Netflix, held up by Mike Colter’s title character, who we had already met in ‘Jessica Jones.’ The question of the week is about the iconic Luke Cage costume, yellow shirt and boots, and whether or not Colter will be donning the suit in ‘Luke Cage’ the series. The first question asked of course, is whether he did not wear the costume in ‘Jessica Jones’ specifically because it was being saved for his own series, to which Colter answered:
“Jessica is her series. Anything that’s primarily Luke Cage we want to save for Luke Cage’s series. I’m not saying that you’re going to see the yellow shirt, but if you’re going to see it, it’ll be in Luke Cage’s series.”
Despite his cagey answers (pun INtended), I’m guessing we will be seeing him in that costume sooner or later, as even Jessica’s costume managed to make an easter egg appearance in her show, and her character was not known for her costume like Luke is. Colter went on to explain in another interview with the LA Times how the writers are trying to keep things close to the comic book to please the fans, but also base the series in the gritty realism found in the other MCU Netflix series’, which might explain why he might not run around in a bright yellow shirt fighting crime.
“The writers have been very clever and very on point with the way they allowed this to be grounded in realism while paying homage to the comic book and what comic book fans know to be their world…To try and not give the fans what they want would be a mistake; that being said, it’s going to be a unique way of delivering it. But they’re going to get what they want eventually.”
