Moviegoers are griping that too much is spoiled by trailers and other promotional materials for movies, but when these viewers can only fixate on one “thing” that is probably beside the point, maybe it’s best to just clear the air and get it out of the way.

‘Fantastic Four’ arrives in theaters next week and it seems the only subject folks are buzzing about is The Thing‘s lack of trousers.  In the comics, Ben Grimm’s rocky alter ego always sports at least trunks, but for some mysterious reason, the walking boulder in the new movie is au naturale.  For the love of God, WHY?!?!

Well, the latest bit of promotion, a viral video released via Twitter answers that burning question and gives some additional information of the movie and the four focal characters.

The clip is narrated by Tim Blake Nelson‘s Harvey Elder and presented as a dry military video submitted to the Department of Defense for funding.  You can watch it below:

So there you have it.  It’s not that The Thing isn’t wearing pants, it’s that he’s not wearing a “containment suit.”  The others need special garments to accommodate their powers; i.e. Reed Richards’ suit has to stretch and Johnny Storm’s can’t burn up every time he catches fire.  The Thing is impervious to harm, so… he doesn’t need clothing.  So there ya go.

Other than that, there are some other reveals in the video.

It’s interesting that it is revealed that the military is looking for a way to replicate the Four’s powers in order to weaponize them.  That’s a different spin.  Also, it’s clear that Reed, Sue, Ben and Johnny are the only surviving “assets” from the excursion into the Quantum Gate (not to be confused with the Quantum Realm in ‘Ant-Man’).  So even though it appears that Doctor Doom has powers in the trailers, he must have obtained them another way.

What do you think?  What other mysteries would you like revealed in this movie?

Directed by Josh Trank, ‘Fantastic Four’ opens on August 7th, 2015 and stars Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm, Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm and Toby Kebbell as Victor Von Doom.
