It will be interesting to see how ‘Gotham’ continues to evolve, as they steadily draw characters from the Batman comic book mythos backward in time, to a period when Bruce Wayne was just a young teenager, immediately after his parents were murdered.  Now, get ready for two more sinister citizens to plant their roots in the crime-ridden metropolis, brother and sister team of Theo and Tabitha Galavan.

Wait a second, who?  These characters, as named, are not existing DC characters.  Theo is a power-hungry billionaire industrialist, determined to take over the city.  Tabitha serves as his whip-cracking enforcer.  The pair are described as opposites; Theo being cold and calculating and Tabitha sensual and violent.

James Frain has been cast as Theo.  Frain is a veteran of many genre shows including ‘True Blood,’ ‘The Cape,’ ‘Grimm,’ ‘Orphan Black’ and the upcoming season of ‘Agent Carter.’  (Yes, he’s appearing in both a DC and a Marvel series this fall!)

Jessica Lucas will be playing the sexy Tabitha.  Lucas has appeared on several drama series, including ‘CSI,’ ‘90210’ and ‘Melrose Place.’

BUT, there is more to these two than meets the eye initially, as it has been revealed that Tabitha is an adaptation of the DC character The Tigress.  In the comic books, Tigress was a retconned identity used by Paula Brooks, a Golden Age villain most familiar as the tiger suit-wearing Huntress.  In the 80s, it was revealed that Brooks had initially attempted to be a hero using the Tigress identity, before choosing a life of crime.  Eventually, she married fellow criminal, the Sportsmaster, a.k.a. Lawrence Crock.  They had a daughter, whom they named Artemis.  Upon reaching adulthood, Artemis followed in her parents’ footsteps and became a crossbow-wielding super villain and like her mother, she eventually married a fellow crook, Icicle, himself the son of a Golden Age villain also named Icicle.  At some point, Artemis adopted her mother’s first codename and began going by Tigress, herself.

A very different version of Artemis was used on the cartoon series ‘Young Justice.’  Her lineage was the same, but this Artemis was a true hero, sponsored by Green Arrow to join a team of teenage sidekicks attempting to follow in their mentors’ path.  In the second season, Artemis donned the disguise of The Tigress to infiltrate the team of villains that sought to destroy the Justice League.  In both identities, Artemis utilized archery, either with a bow or crossbow.

Neither version quite matches that of Tabitha Galavan, who quite frankly sounds more like Catwoman, with her whip and nod to S&M.  But of course, Catwoman is Selina Kyle, a character that already exists, played by Camren Bicondova.

Are they simply using the name Tigress?  Or will this new villain actually have more in common with the comic book villain(s)?  More news as it becomes known, or else we’ll have to wait until the new season kicks off this fall.
