Dominic Purcell has officially joined the cast of the CW’s upcoming spinoff of ‘The Flash’ and ‘Arrow.’ Purcell is set to reprise his ‘Flash’ role of Mick Rory/Heat Wave, a pyromaniac who finds a partner in crime in the form of Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (played by Purcell’s former ‘Prison Break’ co-star Wentworth Miller).

The as yet untitled spinoff is currently planned for a midseason launch, presumably in early 2016. Often described as a superhero team up show, the prospective series has been said to include three major DC Comics  characters who have not yet featured on a TV series. As announced so far, the cast includes (in addition to Purcell) Brandon Routh, Victor Garber, Wentworth Miller and Caity Lotz. Not only have all of these performers appeared on ‘The Flash’ and/or ‘Arrow,’ Routh, Garber and Miller are all confirmed to reprise their established roles of Ray Palmer, Martin Stein and Leonard Snart respectively. Caity Lotz, however, is something of a wild card at this stage. While she has long been a part of ‘Arrow,’ her character was killed off earlier this season. So while it’s not impossible that she too could be returning to a familiar role, it does seem rather unlikely. Could she one of the aforementioned “three major characters?” Anything is possible.

Also worthy of note is that while this series was frequently speculated to be a Firestorm show (particularly as Garber’s casting was announced), Firestorm’s “other half” is conspicuously absent, as actor Robbie Amell has not signed on to the series.

Like its parent shows and the upcoming ‘Supergirl’ series, the untitled spinoff will be produced by the team of Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim.

‘Arrow’ stars Stephen Amell and currently airs on Wednesdays at 8:00pm, while ‘The Flash’ stars Grant Gustin in the title role and airs on Tuesdays at 8:00pm. Both shows run on the CW.
