It is starting to sound like Brandon Routh might have a new full gig as he is in early talks with The CW’ about another ‘Arrow’ spin-off that focuses on his new character, ‘The Atom.’ With his lack of success on ‘Superman Returns’ as the Man of Steel it is good to see Routh getting another chance at the gig as he really has the looks and acting chops to be able to pull off a heroic character.

It seems that at the Television Critics Association winter press tour one of the big hints came from Arrow’s executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg who are working on a “very general idea” on how a series for The Atom might work. With ‘The Flash’ we’ve already seen that ratings that are trumping ‘Arrow’ are clearly favoring a series with superheroes that have special abilities and ‘The Atom’ would be able to deliver just that. Also with a character that has been around since the 1960s, there is plenty of source material to mine for an ongoing series.

Mark Pedowitz, The CW’s president, however is optimistic about another series but does want to make sure they don’t cause “audience fatigue” with how many comic book themed movies and series are currently in production.

While we don’t know too much about Routh’s character on the show quite yet, he did mention a major change in how he fits in the ‘Arrow’ universe right off the bat:

“No, [Palmer being a corporate executive] is a totally a new thing to make him able to take over Queen Consolidated. That adds another cool go-getter aspect to him which I think is fun, which is where a lot of his passion and energy comes into the fact that he’s a self-made man in this way. He’s created this huge empire for himself. Now that he’s reached the pinnacle, what is he going to do? He had this tragedy in his life and now he’s going to give back. It’s a cool story.”
