Black Adam,

Coming off the success as the cinematographer for ‘Joker,’ we know that Lawrence Sher is set to be the director of photography for ‘Black Adam.’ Little is known about the Dwayne Johnson starring film outside of the fact that it is set in the same universe as ‘Shazam!,’ but now we’re getting an idea of the film’s tone.

As this is a story about an anti-hero, we know it should be a bit grittier, but what that means has been a mystery. However, according to Sher in a recent interview with Collider:

“One of my interests about it is to continue to sort of—and we’ve talked about it with Dwayne and obviously with Jaume and DC—can we continue to sort of reshape what a comic book movie is? Like yes, of course, you want it to be entertaining, and it has to make a decent amount of money so it can’t live in such a fringe place that it doesn’t bring people in, but can we do something inventive? So that’s the goal is to continue to try to do something a bit inventive with it.”

So it sounds like the studio is trying to keep what has worked for films like ‘Joker’ and give us a new twist on a comic book movie. How much of a new concept can be thrown at a film that will take place in a pre-existing universe remains to be seen.
