Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Issac in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

We keep hearing that ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker‘ is the end of the Skywalker Saga. However, fans of Daisy Ridley and her character Rey might wonder what that could mean for the future of her character? The actress who plays Luke Skywalker’s final apprentice, and likely has inspired a legion of younger “Star Wars’ fans, doesn’t think she’ll be returning to play the part. Before you jump to any theories that this means the death of her character in the film, the reason actually is because the actress doesn’t think Rey would work as a character without Finn and Poe both returning as well.

Ridley was asked by Screen Rant if she would like to continue on playing Rey in video games or in a Disney+ series after the saga comes to an end, but she didn’t seem to think that would work:

“I’m complete. I think the thing is… I also think we’re already apart of a video game because John [Boyega] plays it, and apparently, I’m a great character, but the beauty of this is John, and Oscar [Isaac], and Naomi [Ackie]. We’re all in it together, so one without the other to me, it doesn’t really compute because I’m like what would Rey be without Finn? What would Finn be without Poe? That’s how I’ve always thought about it. So, no. I feel this is a beautiful ending in this way.”

Not sure if how much of this is Ridley’s true feelings trying to hide the end of ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’, Lucasfilm unsure what they’re doing with the franchise, or contract negotiations that are all up in the air. I’m sure with the right idea, like bringing the entire cast back or being offered a big payday, could change Ridley’s mind, but it is sounding like the third outing with Rey will be our last.

It should be noted that both of her co-stars Boyega and Isaac have both hinted that they wouldn’t be returning to the franchise anytime soon either.

Do you hope that we see more of Rey, Poe, and Finn in future “Star Wars” outings? If so, would you prefer it to be in film, television, videogames, or books? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
