The sidekicks are coming back.  Collider has confirmed that Daniella Pineda and Justice Smith will return for the third ‘Jurassic World’ film.  Both made the ‘Jurassic’ debuts in the last flick, ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’, as co-workers of Claire Dearing’s at the environmental Dinosaur Protection Group.  Pineda played Zia Rodriguez, a paleoveterinarian, who also turned out to be an ex-Marine.  Smith’s character, Franklin Webb, was a hacker and computer ace, who had previously worked for Jurassic World.

Bryce Dallas Howard returns as Dearing, while Chris Pratt will be back as Owen Grady.  It has also been revealed that Isabella Sermon will reprise the role of Maisie Lockwood, the “granddaughter” of John Hammond’s old partner.  Longtime fans are excited that this sequel will include the three stars of the original ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise– Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill.  In addition, Mamoudou Athie and DeWanda Wise have been cast as new characters, but no information has been revealed about them.

Colin Trevorrow is directing, after having directed the first ‘Jurassic World’.  He co-wrote the first and second ‘Jurassic World’ with Derek Connolly, and the pair penned the story for this third picture.  Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael co-wrote the final screenplay.

Following ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’, Pineda co-starred on Netflix’s suspense series ‘What/If’, and TBS’ ‘The Detour’.  She is set to portray Faye Valentine in Netflix’s adaptation of the anime ‘Cowboy Bebop’, but production has been put on hold following an on-set injury suffered by star John Cho.

Smith previously starred in the movie ‘Paper Towns’ and the Netflix series ‘The Get Down’.  Following ‘Fallen Kingdom’, he headlined the successful live-action/animation hybrid ‘Pokémon: Detective Pikachu’.  He co-stars with Elle Fanning, and Keegan-Michael Key in the upcoming ‘All the Bright Places’.

Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s ‘Jurassic World 3’ will be released on June 11, 2021.
