Cousins and occasional costars Stephen and Robbie Amell are reteaming for a crowdfunded super-powered movie called ‘Code 8’. Using Indiegogo, the Amells raised $2.5 million to make this picture, after filming a short film of the same name to garner interest. The film will be released in theaters and on-demand on December 13, and a new teaser trailer has been released.
From Entertainment Weekly:
Directed by Jeff Chan, Code 8 is set in a world where four percent of the population is born with varying supernatural abilities, but instead of being billionaires or superheroes, they face discrimination and live in poverty, often resorting to crime. Connor Reed (Robbie Amell), a power-enabled young man, is struggling to pay for his ailing mother’s (Kari Matchett) health treatment. Fighting to earn enough money as a day laborer, Connor is lured into a lucrative criminal world by Garrett (Stephen Amell) who works for Lincoln City’s reigning drug lord, Marcus Sutcliffe (Greg Bryk). Garrett helps Connor sharpen his powers in order to execute a series of crimes on behalf of Sutcliffe, while a militarized police unit, led by Agent Park (Sung Kang) and Agent Davis (Aaron Abrams), hunts them down.

The Amells are also serving as executive producers of ‘Code 8’.
Stephen is best known for playing the non-super-powered crusader Green Arrow on The CW’s ‘Arrow’ which is currently airing its eighth and final season. Robbie joined the Arrowverse as Ronnie Raymond, Caitlin Snow’s fiancé and one half of the combined superbeing Firestorm, guest-starring on ‘The Flash’. Stephen’s Oliver Queen has appeared on almost every other CW Dc superhero series at one time or another, and he will play a major role in this winter’s “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover. After ‘Arrow’ wraps up, Stephen has already signed on to his next project, the Starz series ‘Heels’ about aspiring pro wrestlers. Alexander Ludwig is signed to co-star as Stephen’s character’s brother.
Robbie has also appeared in McG’s Netflix movie ‘The Babysitter’. (Robbie previously co-starred in the McG-produced film ‘The Duff’.) He also co-starred on the revival of ‘The X-Files’ and appeared on Netflix’s ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’. He is now filming ‘The Babysitter 2’.
