Director Neill Blomkamp (‘District 9′,’Chappie) is ramping up his talent search for his next film ‘Inferno’ and has just cast Taylor Kitsch (’21 Bridges’,’Waco’) in the leading role. The director is fresh off pre-production of ‘Robocop‘ which he is no longer involved in and details about his next project are starting to come to light. Kitsch is no stranger to genre films having starred in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ and ‘Battleship’ among other films.
The actor’s time working on ‘True Detective’ should also have helped him prepare for this role as he will be playing “a cop who is called to investigate a seemingly ordinary murder in the New Mexico desert. The arrival of the FBI confirms his suspicions that something bigger – perhaps extraterrestrial – is at play. The hunt for the killer puts him face-to-face with a humanoid beast who will stop at nothing to exterminate the one witness to the crime.”

With Blomkamp’s involvement, the idea of this having something extraterrestrial in origin seems to be a no brainer. Of the upcoming film, the director shared:
“I am very excited to be getting behind the camera and making Inferno with AGC. The film is filled with themes and concepts that I find deeply fascinating; I feel lucky to be shooting it.”
That also seems to unofficially confirm the idea of an alien influence. Blomkamp is putting together the film for AGC Studios and working directly with Stuart Ford at the company. Ford is thrilled to have this project moving forward and added:
“Over the last decade Neill Blomkamp has proven himself to be one of the most innovative creators of science fiction cinema in the world and I’m convinced that Inferno is going to break new ground and take Neill’s body of work to even greater heights.”
That is sure to excite fans to have a concept being pitched, which could rival ‘District 9.’ Of course, Blomkamp’s other films haven’t received quite as high praise, so we’ll have to see what ends up on the big screen when the movie is released.
