Eric Kripke, the creator and showrunner of Amazon Prime’s hit superhero satire ‘The Boys’ shared a selfie on Twitter that indicates that nerd favorite Patton Oswalt has filmed a scene (or more) for Season 2.  As Kripke wrote, “Thank you @pattonoswalt, that was AMAZING!”

Kripke’s post doesn’t give any indication of what role Oswalt will play, but fans of the original comic book, by writer Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson, are speculating that he is portraying The Legend.  The otherwise unnamed character was a comic book writer and editor that worked for Vought-American, creating the comic book adventures of The Seven, another work of propaganda used to make the public believe that these super beings are altruistic champions of justice.  Of course, as we’ve seen with Season 1, that is hardly the case.

The Legend arranged to be hired by Vought so that he could infiltrate the company and gain intel on it and The Seven in hopes that he could one day use that information to take them down.  However, during his years of working with Vought, he developed a close relationship with Queen Maeve (played by Dominique McElligott on the show), who is the one “supe” he doesn’t hate.  The Legend uses his encyclopedic knowledge of Vought and The Seven to aid The Boys on their mission to keep them in check… or kill them.

Oswalt provided the voice of Happy on the Syfy series ‘Happy!’ which was canceled after two seasons.  He also appears on ‘A.P. Bio’ which will shift to the Peacock streaming service for its third season, and he narrates ‘The Goldbergs’.  He co-starred on the Hulu revival of ‘Veronica Mars’.  He also lends his voice to ‘Spider-Man’ as Uncle Ben and the Chameleon, ‘Big Hero 6: The Series‘ as Mr. Sparkles, and the new Imdb series ‘You Are Not A Monster’ as the Invisible Man.  He will write and executive produce the Hulu series ‘M.O.D.O.K.’ and provide the lead character’s voice.

The first season of ‘The Boys’ was a huge hit for Amazon, although the service hasn’t revealed its actual numbers.  It was renewed for a second season before the first was released.  The first is available to stream in its entirety, and the second is expected to arrive next year.
