Jada Pinkett Smith Is In Talks To Return In 'The Matrix 4'

Reportedly, Jada Pinkett Smith is in negotiations to return to the role of Niobe in ‘The Matrix 4’.  Niobe was introduced in ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ and returned in ‘The Matrix Revolutions’, both released in 2003.

Reportedly, Pinkett Smith’s return is not a done deal, but if she does sign on, she will join Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity) who starred in all three installments of the original trilogy, and who are confirmed to return for the new film.  Last week, it was announced that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II had been added to the cast.  Though his role is not confirmed, it is believed that he will portray a younger version of Laurence Fishburn’s Morpheus.  It is also reported that an actor is being sought to portray a younger version of Neo.  At this time, Fishburn has not been announced as returning.  It has just been revealed that Neil Patrick Harris will also appear in the film, but his role is unknown.

Original co-writer and co-director Lana Wachowski is set to direct ‘The Matrix 4’ solo, based on a screenplay she wrote with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.  Just like the original trilogy, the new sequel hails from Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures, with Terry Needham is executive producing.  Wachowski is producing, along with Grant Hill and Joel Silver, the latter of which also produced the originals.

The original movies– ‘The Matrix’ (1999), ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ (2003), and ‘Matrix Revolutions’ (2003)– have grossed $1.6 billion worldwide.  The first ‘Matrix’ won for technical Academy Awards for Editing, Sound, Sound Editing, and Visual Effects.

In the original ‘Matrix’ films, Niobe was one of Neo’s allies in the revolt against The Matrix and the captain of the Logos hovercraft.
