Keanue Reeves Says The Script For 'The Matrix 4' Is "Very Ambitious"

Production in the fourth ‘Matrix’ movie is expected to begin early next year, and rest assured, Keanu Reeves has read the script and is ready.  The actor stated that he was “absolutely” excited to return to his millennium-era franchise that absolutely changed the way action movies were made (for better or worse).

While attending the premiere of his sister, director Karina Miller’s new film ‘Semper Fi’, he was careful not to shift attention away from that project, but he did briefly speak about the script for ‘The Matrix 4’, stating:

“It’s very ambitious.  As it should be!”

Director Lana Wachowski wrote the script for the new film with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.  Lana Wachowski co-created the concept for ‘The Matrix’ with sister Lilly, and the duo co-directed the original three films.  Lana will helm the new entry without Lilly.  In addition to Reeves, who portrays Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss, Trinity, is also confirmed to be returning.  The new film hails from the original studios, Village Roadshow, and Warner Brothers.

The first ‘Matrix’ was not only a box office smash but a critical darling as well when it arrived in 1999.  The two sequels… not so much.  But it’s interesting to note that the two sequels, ‘Reloaded’ and ‘Revolutions’ were both released in the same year, 2003, which is unusual, and that ‘Revolutions’ was the first movie ever to be released worldwide simultaneously, versus a staggered release.  The trilogy grossed $1.6 billion worldwide.

In the meantime, Reeves just wrapped up a sequel to another of his famous franchises– ‘Bill & Ted Face the Music’, the third movie in the series, following 1989’s ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ and 1991’s ‘Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey’.  That picture is due to open in theaters next summer, on August 21, 2020.

‘The Matrix 4’ has not been given a release date, and a production date is unknown beyond early 2020.  But check back for details.

Are you excited that Keanu Reeves is returning in a fourth ‘Matrix’ movie?
