It sounds as though Australian actor Joel Edgerton may make a return visit to the ‘Star Wars’ universe in the upcoming ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Disney+ series starring Ewan McGregor.  The actor made brief appearances in ‘Attack of the Clones’ and ‘Revenge of the Sith’ as Owen Lars, opposite Bonnie Maree Piesse as his wife Beru.  Owen was the stepbrother of Anakin Skywalker, and was given custody of Anakin’s infant son Luke by Kenobi, who also told Owen that Anakin was dead.  As a result, Lars developed a resentment toward Kenobi, whom he held responsible for Anakin’s “death.”  Phil Brown portrayed the older Owen in ‘A New Hope’.

MTV’s Josh Horowitz spoke to Edgerton regarding his new Netflix film ‘The King’, but when talk shifted to ‘Obi-Wan’, it seems Edgerton grew evasive.  This is what Horowitz revealed, via Twitter:

It isn’t known quite when the ‘Obi-Wan’ series will take place, but presumably, it will be between ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and ‘A New Hope’.  It’s also safe to assume that it won’t just be about Kenobi settling down as a desert hermit on Tatooine.  Is there more story to tell about the relationship between Kenobi and Owen Lars?  It would appear so.

The ‘Star Wars’ prequels were among Edgerton’s first projects to bring him to American audiences.  Edgerton has been acclaimed for his work in films such as ‘The Square’, ‘Warrior’, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, ‘The Great Gatsby’, ‘The Gift’, ‘Loving’, and ‘Boy Erased’.  He was also seen in ‘King Arthur’, ‘Smokin’ Aces’, the 2011 remake of ‘The Thing’, ‘Bright’, and ‘Red Sparrow’.  Edgerton is preparing to star in the Amazon Prime Video miniseries ‘The Underground Railroad’, and the crime drama ‘Stingray’.

Would you like to see more of Owen Lars in the ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ series on Disney+?  Are there any other characters from the prequels that you would like to see again? (Jar-Jar, anyone?  Anyone?)
