The adaptation of Stephen King‘s ‘It: Chapter Two‘ almost had a horror cameo out of left field as director Andy Muschietti tried to get Guillermo del Toro to appear in the film. In fact, it sounds as if he was almost able to pull it off as well!

Muschietti shares that he is “very ambitious when it comes to cameos” and jokingly added that “It’s my best trait as a director.” We know of multiple cameos in the movie already so being able to include one of the most iconic creators of modern-day horror would have been a treat.

Of this potential cameo, Muschietti shared the following at the During the ‘It: Chapter Two’ press junket:

“I wanted Guillermo in the movie. Guillermo del Toro. We were this close. He was going to play the janitor that Ben runs into when he’s running away from Pennywise. Yeah. That scene, of course, would have been like five minutes longer if Guillermo was in it.”

The scene in question has Jeremy Ray Taylor’s character Ben Hanscomb being chased by Pennywise and runs directly into a janitor. While it is a quick moment, things would have clearly been changed had del Toro been able to star in the role. This sounds like it could have been a fun way to quickly have the iconic director show up, make his mark on the film, and be a fun cameo for those who love his connection to the genre without distracting from the plot.

Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, “IT CHAPTER TWO” brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.

We’ll float with ‘It Chapter 2’ which is in theaters now!
