Jon Favreau

While Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios haven’t made any headway on Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it sounds as if talks might still be occurring behind closed doors. In the meantime, we’ve heard plenty of actors and directors weighing in on the mistake these companies are making by not keeping their deal going. One of those most intimately involved with the character is actor and director Jon Favreau who wants and hopes that Spidey can still end up a part of the MCU.

This comes as no surprise because as he entertainingly puts it, “Aunt May and Happy were quite a couple. As an actor, I had so much fun working with Marisa [Tomei] and Tom Holland.”

While Happy Hogan‘s involvement with Aunt May and Peter Parker aren’t the only reason we’d want to see Spidey return, it seems like a shame for the character’s arc to end on the cliffhanger of ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’s after-the-credit scenes.

As to Favreau’s thoughts on the situation:

“You never know what’s going to happen. I’m holding out hope and being optimistic that this isn’t the final chapter of the story between those characters.

There is always the chance the studios can still find an agreement, but recent comments by Holland seem to have Sony already having found a way to include him in their future projects. Unless everything ended up being tied into the greater MCU, it seems less likely by the day that we can see these two media companies finding a way to play ball.

Are you still hoping with Jon Favreau that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will continue to have his story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Is it possible that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures will find a way to get along or will fans end up being the biggest losers int his situation?
