As the dust settles following this year’s D23 Expo, a few more morsels of information are coming to light. One of the highlights of the event was the reveal of the trailer for Season 1 of ‘The Mandalorian‘, the first-ever ‘Star Wars’ live-action TV show, which kicks off on November 12, when Disney+ launches.
With the eye-popping trailer now available, Disney has revealed a few fun facts about five of the characters glimpsed in it (via Entertainment Weekly):

As for Pedro Pascal‘s enigmatic lead, it is revealed that he “likes to work alone and is rather attached to his stuff.” And while it appears that he will only be referred to as “The Mandalorian,” it was revealed that, “yes, he has another, real name…” Will viewers find that out? Maybe not, and maybe that’s for the best. But some fans have him pegged as Boba Fett, having escaped being eaten by the Sarlac Pit in “Jedi.”
Giancarlo Esposito‘s character is Moff Gideon, who is described as “a regional warlord of sorts.” The most famous Moff was Grand Moff Tarkin from ‘A New Hope’, but if you ever wondered what that title meant:
“The Moffs were Sector Governors of the First Galactic Empire. But now that the Empire has collapsed, the governors are on their own, and some still have armies at their behest — and this one is rather ambitious.”
Previously, Esposito discussed his role– whose name was unknown at the time– saying:
“In a way, you might call him an underworld character. You may also look at him as a savior, as someone who might bring back some order to the world after it’s all collapsed.”
Unlike Esposito, Gina Carano’s character was less of a mystery. She is “ex-Rebel shock troop” Cara Dune. The newly revealed detail about her is that she “Fought in the Galactic Civil War under the banner of the Rebellion.” As Carano previously stated, Dune is “having some trouble reintegrating myself into society.” She compared the Rebel Shock Troops to “paratroopers, that were among the toughest and most resilient.”
Also previously reported: “When the war ends, veterans like Dune found herself adrift, looking for a new place to belong, and haunted by what she had witnessed and done, even in the name of a good cause.”
Carl Weathers‘ Greef Karga is the “leader of the bounty hunters guild,” who “asks The Mandalorian to take on an assignment that nobody else wants.”
As Weathers previous divulged:
“He’s looking for someone to go after a product that he wants to bring to a client that’s worth a lot and that’s very valuable, and guess who he finds? He finds a bounty hunter named ‘Mandalorian.’ And The Mando is a guy that he figures can get the job done so he hires this guy, sends him out there and the Mando does what needs to be done.”
With this next one, I have to offer a “My bad.” This isn’t IG-88 from ‘Empire’, but rather IG-11. But that’s sort of the point. As EW wrote:
Often gets mistaken for the famous IG-88 in the show (just as fans watching the trailer have mistaken him for IG-88 in real life).
Crowd-pleaser Taika Waititi provides his voice.
The first season of ‘The Mandalorian’ consists of only eight episodes. Those will be released one per week (as will episodes of all original Disney+ shows). It will be among the shows that will be available when Disney+ launches on November 12.
