Netflix’s King Arthur-inspired series ‘Cursed’ has recruited Bella Dayne to portray a Viking warrior named Red Spear.  She is described as “a regal and ruthless Viking captain, with an eye for treasure. … Loyal to no one, the Red Spear and her crew raid villages along the coast of Britain until a Fey stowaway boards her ship and entangles their fates.”  Dayne starred as Astrid on AMC’s ‘Humans’ and as Helen of Troy on BBC’s ‘Troy: Fall of a City’.

‘Cursed’ will use the Arthurian legends to explore “timely, familiar themes including obliteration of the natural world, religious zeal and oppression, senseless war and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible.”  Katherine Langford stars as the show’s lead, Nimue the Lady of the Lake.

“Cursed is a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther.”

‘Cursed’ is the brainchild of comic book writer Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler (‘The Cape’) who co-wrote the series.  Wheeler will act as showrunner, and the duo is creating a tie-in illustrated book.  They are also executive producing.

Devon Terrell will portray King Arthur, with Gustaf Skarsgård as Merlin, and Matt Stokoe as Gawain.  The cast also includes Sebastian Armesto, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Emily Coates, Billy Jenkins, Peter Mullan, Lily Newmark, Daniel Sharman, and Catherine Walker.

The first season will be comprised of ten episodes and is currently filming in the UK.  The tie-in book will be released on October 1, by Simon & Schuster.  Miller contributes eight color illustrations and 30 black and white.
