Katherine Langford isn’t straying too far from home.  After being nominated for a Golden Globe for starring on Netflix’s ’13 Reasons Why’, Langford will head up the new Netflix series ‘Cursed’ based on the legend of King Arthur.  Well, kind of.  This series won’t focus on Arthur, but rather The Lady in the Lake, the guardian of Arthur’s legendary blade Excalibur, in a manner that will explore “timely, familiar themes including obliteration of the natural world, religious zeal and oppression, senseless war and finding the courage to lead in the face of the impossible.”  Langford’s character will be named Nimue, and is described as “a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift.”

‘Cursed’ was co-created by Tom Wheeler (‘The Cape’), and comic book giant Frank Miller.  The duo will release an illustrated book, also called ‘Cursed’, this all, from Simon & Schuster.  This will be the first time the same creators will simultaneously develop a book and TV series.  Netflix ordered ten episodes for the first season.

Because the book has not yet been released, not much is known about the story or characters, but what we do know is that Langford will be joined onscreen by Devon Terrell, Gustaf Skarsgård, Peter Mullan, Lily Newmark, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Daniel Sharman, Sebastian Armesto, Emily Coates, Catherine Walker, and Billy Jenkins.

Peter Mullan costarred on Netflix’s ‘Ozark’, and was more recently seen on the BBC2 series ‘Mum’ which airs in the US on PBS.  The final season will arrive this year.

Lily Newmark had a small role in last year’s ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ and co-starred on NBC’s Oz-based fantasy series ‘Emerald City’.  Most recently, she appeared on Netflix’s ‘Sex Education’.  Shalom Brune-Franklin can currently be seen on the Australian drama ‘Bad Mothers’.  Daniel Sharman starred as Lorenzo de’ Medici on Netflix’s ‘Medici: Masters of Florence’ and as Troy Otto on AMC’s ‘Fear the Walking Dead’.

Billy Jenkins

Sebastian Armesto will be seen in BBC1’s upcoming miniseries ‘Gold Digger’.  He was previously seen in AMC’s horror anthology ‘The Terror’ and on ‘Broadchurch’ as Clive Lucas.  Emily Coates popped up in BBC1’s ‘Warren’ and the current series ‘Flack’.

Catherine Walker appeared in last year’s Irish miniseries ‘Resistance’ and will be in the upcoming season of ‘Shetland’.  Finally, Billy Jenkins played young Prince Charles on ‘The Crown’, and starred as Seraph Sam on AMC’s sci-fi series ‘Humans’.  He was also in the worst movie of last year, ‘Holmes & Watson’.

Quite an impressive cast!  Check back for news about ‘Cursed’ as it moves closer to production.
