Brave New World

The cast of the TV adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s ‘Brave New World’ has been rounded out.  As was previously reported Alden Ehrenreich, Jessica Brown Findlay, and Harry Lloyd have already been cast in the leads.  Brown Findlay and Lloyd play Lenina Crowne and Bernard Marx, two individuals who take a vacation from their hedonistic utopian society and encounter Ehrenreich’s John the Savage.

As citizens of New London, Bernard Marx (Lloyd) and Lenina Crowne (Brown Findlay) have only ever known a rigid social order, a perfect pharmaceutical called Soma, and a culture of instant gratification and ubiquitous sex. Curious to explore life beyond the strictures of their society, the two New Worlders embark on a vacation to the Savage Lands, where they become embroiled in a harrowing and violent rebellion. Bernard and Lenina are rescued by John the Savage (Ehrenreich), who escapes with them back to New London.

It has now been announced that Ehrenreich, Brown Findlay, and Lloyd will be joined by Kylie Bunbury will portray Lenina’s best friend, Frannie, “a Beta Plus who embraces her conditioning and New London’s social order.”

Bunbury can currently be seen in Netflix’s most-watched series ever, ‘When They See Us’.  She also headlined FOX’s ‘Pitch’, and co-starred on ‘Under the Dome’.  She appeared in last year’s big-screen comedy ‘Game Night’.

Hannah John-Kamen will play Wilhelmina “Helm” Watson, “a hedonistic artist and New London’s premier maker of Feelies.”

John-Kamen will be seen later this summer in the fifth and final season of Syfy’s ‘Killjoys’, and she appeared in last year’s ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ as the villain Ava Starr/Ghost.  She has also made appearances in ‘Ready Player One’, ‘Tomb Raider’, and ‘Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens’, and on TV/streaming in ‘Black Mirror’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘The Tunnel’.  Her voice will be heard on Netflix’s upcoming ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’.

Sen Mitsuji’s role is that of Henry Foster, “an Alpha Plus in every way, who works alongside Bernard as a counselor at The Bureau of Stability.”

Mitsuji co-starred on the YouTube series ‘Origin’, and will appear on the upcoming second season of Netflix’s ‘Altered Carbon’ and will have a recurring role in the upcoming final season of Amazon’s ‘The Man in the High Castle’.

Joseph Morgan will play “CJack60, an Epsilon relegated to physical, tedious jobs, who is deeply impacted after witnessing a horrifying incident.”

Morgan had the recurring role of Klaus Mikaelson on ‘The Vampire Diaries’, and its the spinoff ‘The Originals’.

Finally, Nina Sosanya will portray Mustafa Mond, “a World Controller who is responsible for maintaining New London’s social structure and utopian promise.”

Sosanya can currently be seen as Sister Mary Loquacious on Amazon’s ‘Good Omens’, and as Jess on BBC America’s ‘Killing Eve’.  She has an extensive resumé in her native England.  In the US she might be recognized from ‘Love Actually’.

‘Brave New World’ was originally in development at Syfy, but was ordered to series at USA this February.  David Wiener, Grant Morrison, and Brian Taylor serve as writers, with Wiener acting as showrunner.  Wiener and Morrison are also executive producers.  Taylor will be billed as executive producer of the first episode, but will act as a consultant after that.

The pilot will be directed by Owen Harris, who is also executive producing.
