'Avengers: Endgame', 'Game Of Thrones', And... Er, 'RBG' Dominate The MTV TV & Movie Awards Nominations (Full Nominee List)

The MTV Awards aren’t exactly the Oscars or Emmys.  Or the Golden Globes.  Or the People’s Choice Awards.  But they are indicative of the taste of the under 30 crowd, which is massively important to Hollywood.  This demographic largely has money to sling at movie tickets and to spend on advertisers of certain TV shows, without the burden of mortgages, student loans, or kids, so what they like makes a huge impact on the decisions that get made as far as TV and film projects.  (Obviously, since I keep calling them “they,” I am not part of this demographic.)

All anyone can talk about is ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and ‘Game of Thrones’, domating the MTV TV & Movie Awards, along with… ‘RBG’ the documentary about Supreme Court judge Ruth Bader Ginsberg.  Well, alright then.

This marks the first occasion that ‘Avengers: Endgame’ has been nominated for awards, as it hasn’t even been out for a month yet.  For the MTV TV & Movie Awards, it is up for Best Movie, Best Fight (Captain America vs. Thanos), Best Hero (Tony Stark/Iron Man), and Best Villain (Thanos).

‘Game of Thrones’ is up for Best Show, Best Hero (Arya Stark), Best Performance in a Show (Emilia Clarke), and Best Fight (Arya vs. the White Walkers).  ‘RBG’ is up for Best Documentary and Best Fight, as well as the new category Real-Life Hero, and the only-on-MTV category of Most Meme-able Moment.

All three of the top nominees are competing in the Best Fight category, with Arya vs. the White Walkers facing off against Captain America vs. Thanos and RBG vs. “Inequality.”  The other nominations in that category are Captain Marvel vs. Minn-Erva from ‘Captain Marvel’, and the WWE’s Wrestlemania clash between Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey, and Charlotte Flair.

For Best Movie, ‘Endgame’ is up against ‘BlacKkKlansman’, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’, Netflix’s ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’, and ‘Us’.  In the Best Show category, ‘Game of Thrones’ is up against the most WTF collection of nominees ever, Netflix’s animated ‘Big Mouth’, the hot mess that is The CW’s ‘Riverdale’, ‘Schitt’s Creek’ (whu-?!), and ‘The Haunting of Hill House’.  I have no snarky comments for this, as I am too bewildered that THESE are considered the best shows on TV by any awards-granting body.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is up against another Marvel hero, Captain Marvel as portrayed by Brie Larson, as well as Zachary Levi as ‘Shazam!’.  Levi is also up for Best Comedic Performance.  He might have an “in” however, as Levi is hosting this year’s awards telecast.

Unlike other awards, YOU can vote for the winner in this fight, by going to MTV.com.

The awards will be handed out on Monday, June 17 at 9 p.m.
