A plot description for Blumhouse/Universal’s reboot of ‘The Invisible Man’ has emerged, along with the news that ‘A Wrinkle In Time’s Storm Reid has signed on to the cast, which already includes Elisabeth Moss in the lead role as Cecilia.  Moss recently co-starred in another horror hit, ‘Us’, directed by Jordan Peele.

Here is the description of the film, courtesy of Deadline:

The Leigh Whannell-directed movie follows Cecilia (Moss), who receives the news of her abusive ex-boyfriend’s suicide. She begins to re-build her life for the better, but her sense of reality is put into question when she begins to suspect her deceased lover is not actually dead.

As for Reid’s character, her name is Sydney, and here is her description:

“With her mother gone, she’s picked up the maternal slack and is capable and mature for her age. She’s an outgoing lover of fashion who aspires to see the world, and she initially likes having Cecilia around as a role model, but grows mistrustful of her when strange things begin to happen around the house.“

“Strange things” caused by a ghost or… an invisible man.  Cecilia’s “abusive ex-boyfriend” is known to be named Adrian Griffin, and is described as “a billionaire sociopath who made his money by developing an invisibility suit for the Department of Defense.”  Sounds like he succeeded, but rather than turning the suit over to the Department of Defense, he is using it to stalk his ex.  No one has signed on for that role, but reportedly Armie Hammer and Alexander Skarsgård were at the top of the studio’s wish list.  (It would be kind of a waste to cast either of them and make them invisible for the whole movie!)

Jason Blum is producing ‘The Invisible Man’ and if it does well, look forward to Blumhouse revamping a few of Universal’s classic monster properties.  Universal opted to take this stripped-down approach, following the poor performance of the big-budget flop ‘The Mummy’ (starring Tom Cruise).

Reid will also be seen in the upcoming Netflix miniseries ‘When They See Us’, and HBO’s college dramedy ‘Euphoria’.
