The CW Officially Orders 'Batwoman' To Series

Perhaps it’s because ‘Arrow’ is coming to an end, but The CW has ordered to series ‘Batwoman’, starring  Ruby Rose.  The character debuted during last winter’s ‘Elseworlds’ crossover event, with the network reportedly eyeing the character to potentially headline her own ongoing series.  The Arrowverse team– Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Geoff Johns, David Nutter– delivered a pilot directed by Marcos Siega, with a script by Caroline Dries, and apparently, The CW liked it and picked it up.

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence.

The ‘Batwoman’ pilot also starred Dougray Scott as Kate’s father Jacob, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox / Batwing, Nicole Kang as Kate’s half-sister Mary Hamilton, Rachel Skarsten as villain Alice, and Meagan Tandy as security agent Sophie Moore.  It’s unknown which actors and characters will continue on the ongoing series, or if any new faces will show up.

A release date wasn’t given, but ‘Arrow’ wraps up in the fall with a final ten-episode season.  It’s possible that ‘Batwoman’ will take over after that.

Not only will ‘Arrow’ be gone, but FOX’s ‘Gotham’ recently ended its five-year run.  EPIX’s upcoming ‘Pennyworth’ is a prequel set in the 1960s, and isn’t expected to draw too heavily from the Batman mythos.  DC Universe’s ‘Titans’ will contain certain Bat-elements, but ‘Batwoman’ will be the only Batman-adjacent series on regular network TV, so expect more supporting characters and villains from the comics to appear on this series than the others.

The CW also picked up new series ‘Katy Keene’ and ‘Nancy Drew’.

Check back to find out when ‘Batwoman’ will wing her way back onto The CW, and for any further updates!
