The CW has renewed ‘Roswell, New Mexico’ for a second season, and Amber Midthunder who plays Rosa Ortecho, the sister of main character Liz, has been promoted to series regular after recurring in seven episodes from Season 1.  The CW announced the renewal for ‘Roswell, New Mexico’, along with those for summer series ‘The 100’, the brand new ‘In the Dark’, and freshman fall series ‘All American’.

The series centers on Roswell native Liz Ortecho (Jeanine Mason) who reluctantly returns to her tourist-trap hometown to move back in with her father after the government cuts funding on her biomedical research. When Liz arrives, she reconnects with her teenage crush Max Evans (Nathan Dean Parsons), who now is a Roswell police officer. Their chemistry is instantly electric, but Liz soon discovers a shocking truth: Max is an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life, along with those of his otherworldly sister, Isobel (Lily Cowles), and their friend Michael (Michael Vlamis).

Also included in the regular cast are Tyler Blackburn, Heather Hemmens, Karan Oberoi, Trevor St. John, and Michael Trevino.  It is not believed that Oberoi will return as a series regular for Season 2.

‘Roswell, New Mexico’ is based on the ‘Roswell High’ book series by Melinda Metz.  It is written by ‘The Originals’ Carina Adly MacKenzie and directed by Julie Plec.  The ‘Roswell High’ books were originally adapted into the three-season series ‘Roswell’ which aired on The WB and then UPN, before those networks merged into The CW.  The characters of that show were depicted as high schoolers, as they were in the books.

Midthunder also appears as Kerry Loudermilk on FX’s ‘Legion’ which wraps up with its upcoming third season.  She made a single appearance on The CW’s ‘The Originals’, and has also popped up on ‘Longmire’, ‘Banshee’, and other series.

‘Roswell, New Mexico’ was a mid-season replacement in its first season.  The CW hasn’t stated whether that will remain the same for its second.
