When ‘Game of Thrones‘ had started it had all the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire‘ fans happy that they knew what was coming but as the show crept up and surpassed the novels, it has been worrisome to the readers out there. After all these years the television series will now end before the novels, and you have to wonder what the means for the ending.
We all know that George R.R. Martin had shared with showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss how the novels will end now he’s sharing with the world that the show’s ending will be quite similar to the books. Obviously, not everything can end up the same with various character and plot changed, but the overall story arcs seem like they’ll end up being the same:
“I don’t think Dan and Dave’s ending is going to be that different from my ending because of the conversations we did have, but they may be on certain secondary characters, there may be differences. And yeah, some of the people will have that. There will be a debate, I’m sure. I think a lot of people who say, “Oh, Dan and Dave’s ending is better than the one George gave us, it’s a good thing they changed it.” And there will be a lot of people who say, “No, Dan and Dave got it wrong, George’s ending is better,” and they will all fight on the internet. There will be debate, and that’s fine. The worst thing for any work of art, be it movie or art, is to be ignored.”
Martin can rest easy knowing that there is no way his series can be ignored at this point, but we all hope he doesn’t rest too much and finishes writing the series! All kidding aside, the series is set to give us the overall strokes of how it will end, and while it can’t deliver the smaller details, it is going to be satisfying to know how the story plays out.
