Jeremy Renner's 'Hawkeye' Is The Latest Hero To Be Targeted For A Disney+ Series, Guest-Starring...?

Jeremy Renner is targeting the small screen, as it has been confirmed that Disney and Marvel Studios are developing a Disney+ miniseries starring ‘Hawkeye’.  And as fans have been clamoring for, it will depict Clint Barton as he passes the torch to a younger hero, Kate Bishop.  Though Disney, Marvel, and Renner declined to comment, Variety reports that this news comes from various sources close to the project.  Fans, and even Renner himself, have been asking for Hawkeye to get a series on the upcoming streaming service as he is one of the least utilized of the theatrical ‘Avengers’.  And his lack of superpowers seems to make him a better fit for a lower-budget TV series as opposed to a solo movie.

A ‘Loki’ series, starring Tom Hiddleston has already been officially confirmed, and although it hasn’t been “officially confirmed,” it is widely known that a ‘Vision and Scarlet Witch’ show is also in the works, with strong rumors that shows starring ‘The Winter Soldier and Falcon’, and ‘Rocket and Groot’ are also in some stage of development.  These are conceived as miniseries, around eight episodes a piece, and not ongoing series that will run for multiple seasons, but who knows what will happen if these prove successful.  Samuel L. Jackson recently debunked any talk that his character Nick Fury would also receive a Disney+ series.

Last January, Renner, who is now 48 years old, admitted that he was getting too old to be “in tights.”  This series would allow for the “Hawkeye” name to carry on in the MCU without requiring Renner to hobble around with a quiver and a walker.  (Kidding!)

Kate Bishop, a young female archer, was introduced as the new Hawkeye in 2005, as a member of the ‘Young Avengers’, during a time when Clint Barton was dead.  Since then, Kate and Clint have co-starred in the series ‘Hawkeye’ with Kate acting as the new Hawkeye and her mentor Clint jokingly going by “Hawkguy.”

Last October, we learned that ’13 Reasons Why’ star Katherine Langford had filmed a mystery role in ‘Avengers: Endgame’.  There has been zero chatter about her involvement since then, but at the time, I speculated that she could have been cast to play Kate Bishop.  I stand by that.

What do you think?  Are you intrigued by the idea of a ‘Hawkeye’ series on Disney+?  How do you feel about Renner passing the torch (or bow)?
