If ‘Hellboy‘ is going to have the potential to grow a cinematic Mignolaverse in the way that the comics have, the movie really needs to shine a spotlight on some of the supporting characters, and that is exactly what this new clip is doing.

Here, we’re introduced to a couple of members of the Bureau for Paranormal Research & Defense, or B.P.R.D., which have appeared in other trailers and will likely be a huge influence on the plot in the upcoming film. We’ve heard quite a few hints that more movies outside of just a ‘Hellboy’ sequel could be in the works if this does well at the box office and it will take a spotlight being shined on some real talent to pull it off.

While Ian McShane’s Professor Broom is introducing Hellboy to the B.P.R.D. here, it is Daniel Dae Kim’s Major Daimio and Sasha Lane’s Alice who really get some screentime. These two will likely significantly factor into a B.P.R.D. movie if a spinoff ends up happening.

Franchise creator Mike Mignola has created quite a few characters who would be a good fit for the agency and their own films over the past 20 years so it will be interesting to see which ones end up getting a chance to shine, assuming we see this being a win at the box office.

What did you think about the latest ‘Hellboy’ teaser? Do you feel that these two B.P.R.D. members might be able to help carry a spinoff film? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Hellboy is back, and he’s on fire. From the pages of Mike Mignola’s seminal work, this action-packed story sees the legendary half-demon superhero (David Harbour, “Stranger Things”) called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil series), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.

‘Hellboy’ will “Give Evil Hell” in your local theaters on April 12th, 2019!
