Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, and Noah Jupe will be joined by another monster fighter in the sequel to last year’s hit horror flick ‘A Quiet Place’.  Cillian Murphy is in talks to join the cast, and while the plot and the exact nature of his character are being kept secret, Murphy will play a man with “mysterious intentions.”  But in this world, overrun by aliens who are attracted by sound, sometimes you don’t get to pick who you find yourself allied with.

John Krasinski made his film directing debut with ‘A Quiet Place’ and will be back to helm the sequel.  He also wrote the script.  The first movie was a surprise hit, making $340 million on a micro-budget of $17M.  The sequel is expected to begin filming this summer.

Murphy may be best known for starring as Thomas Shelby for five seasons on historical crime drama ‘Peaky Blinders’.  He frequently stars in the movies of Christopher Nolan, including Inception‘ and the ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy, in which he appeared as the criminal Jonathan Crane/The Scarecrow.  Among his other credits are ’28 Days Later’, ‘Transcendence’, ‘Anthropoid’, and ‘Dunkirk’.

Blunt returns as mother Evelyn Abbott, who just welcomed a new baby into this sinister world in the first movie.  Along with her older children, Regan (Simmonds), and Marcus (Jupe), Evelyn must not only fight for their survival, but that of this new baby.  As was shown in the opening of ‘A Quiet Place’, the Abbotts had a younger child, Beau (played by Cade Woodward) who got eaten when he secretly put batteries into a noisy toy rocket, drawing the carnivorous alien monsters to him.

Even though the Abbotts didn’t directly interact with other survivors, it was shown that there were others, as indicated when Krasinski’s Lee lit a bonfire as a signal to check in with them.  At the end of the movie, it seemed that Evelyn and her kids were taking a more proactive stance against the aliens.

‘A Quiet Place 2’ is already scheduled for release on May 15, 2020.
