Hellboy

With ‘Hellboy’ creeping closer to theaters, a new set of photos has been released showing another look at David Harbour as the film’s lead, plus, for the first time, the witch Baba Yaga and the boar creature Gruagach.  The new film finds Hellboy facing the medieval sorceress Nimue, the Blood Queen, with the help of the Osiris Club, a British organization dedicated to battle supernatural threats.

Check out the new photos below:

Gruagach is Nimue’s constant companion.  For the film, Douglas Tait provided the physical performance for Gruagach, while Stephen Gram provides his voice.

Harbour stars as Hellboy, a supernatural champion who uses his hell-born gifts to battle the forces of evil, for the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.).  This organization was founded by Professor Trevor Bruttenholm, played by Ian McShane, who also acts as Hellboy’s adoptive father, but it has been revealed that McShane’s take on the character is a bit sterner than the kinder and gentler take on the character played by John Hurt in the original cycle of ‘Hellboy’ films.

Hellboy will be assisted on his quest by: Alice Monaghan (Sasha Lane), an Irish woman with mystical abilities; Ben Daimio (Daniel Dae Kim), a grizzled military vet that now works for the B.P.R.D., and can turn into a jaguar under extreme conditions; brutal vigilante Lobster Johnson (Thomas Hayden Church); Ganeida (Penelope Mitchell), an elder witch who decides that Nimue has gone too far; Lord Adam Glaren (Alistair Petrie) a high-ranking member of the Osiris Club; Lady Hatton (Sophie Okonedo), the Osiris Club’s resident seer; and Merlin (Brian Gleeson)– yes, that Merlin.  Milla Jovovich is the force that brings them all together, as Nimue.

Hellboy is back, and he’s on fire. From the pages of Mike Mignola’s seminal work, this action-packed story sees the legendary half-demon superhero (David Harbour, “Stranger Things”) called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil series), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.

‘Hellboy’ storms into theaters on April 12.  This picture is rated R for strong bloody violence and gore throughout, and language.
