One of the biggest questions on everyone’s mind coming out of ‘Captain Marvel’ is “Where has she been for 20 years?” and/or “Why wasn’t she around to help fight Thanos the first time around?” Of course, Marvel seems to always have a plan in mind for these things, and it seems to be something they are already going to address in ‘Avengers: End Game,’ as a recently released scene seems to answer those very questions. While not made available to the public/ the internet, the newly released scene was shown to Disney shareholders at their annual meeting in St. Louis, and features Captain Marvel talking to the other Avengers after her arrival, with them grilling her on where she has been for the last 20 years.

She explains that not every planet has Avengers to protect them, so she has been helping protect other worlds in the same way the Avengers have been protecting Earth, which seems to hint that she was aware of the Avengers and left Earth to their protection thinking they could handle the job. The scene also talked about how they want to fight Thanos again, but they worry it will not turn out any differently this time around, but Captain Marvel assures them it will be different because they will have her this time.

Here’s a description of the scene from Twitter user Scott Ladewig, who attended the meeting this year:

The idea of her dropping off the Skrulls on their new world and then being a one-woman Avengers for the Galaxy is very intriguing and leaves open the possibility for a number of ‘Captain Marvel’ sequels (prequels to ‘End Game’ of course) that could tell some of those stories. Still, it seems odd to me the idea that she would just abandon earth for 2 decades, especially when she still has friends on Earth like Maria and her daughter, and even Fury. And Thanos seems to have been a major threat in the galaxy for quite some time now, if she has been out there “Avenging” for 20 years, protecting planets, has she not heard of him? Seems like the kind of thing she would have dealt with already, especially since his MO was going to undefended planets and slaughtering half their populations. What planets was she defending exactly? Or did she just happen to never cross paths with Thanos or anyone who had heard of him in her 20 years in space?

Those are just my thoughts on the matter, though I would be very interested to hear any that you might have. Please feel free to share any opinions or potential theories you may have in the comments below!
