doom

It has been hard to get excited for the upcoming “Doom” movie that is going straight to video, especially after we had heard it was delayed. That being said, writer and director Tony Giglio (‘Chaos’,’Timber Falls’) has made it clear with all of his updates that he is a fan of the franchise and this is something which may just help this be a sleeper hit. At the very least, it can’t be worse than the 2005 flop which starred The Rock and didn’t touch upon what made the videogames so special to fans.

As mentioned in the post title, the movie will officially be called ‘DOOM: ANNIHILATION’ when Universal 1440 Entertainment releases it this Fall. They’ve also shared the synopsis and three promotional images for the film.

This new cinematic take on the classic game is being described as follows:

DOOM: ANNIHILATION follows a group of space marines as they respond to a distress call from a base on a Martian moon, only to discover it’s been overrun by demonic creatures who threaten to create Hell on Earth.

It already sounds to be closer to the source material than what we’ve seen so far. How that will translate to film and resonate with audiences has yet to be seen. However, what we can see is three images from the movie!

While the “demon” in the first image looks a bit closer to a zombie, I’m still curious as to how this will be. Giglio has been passionate about the franchise, and I’m starting to hope that what we’ll see on the small screen does the video game’s justice, but it’ll be hard to tell.

The movie stars Amy Manson (‘Atlantis’), Dominic Mafham (‘Ophelia’), Luke Allen-Gale (‘Dominion’), and Nina Bergman (‘The Car: Road to Revenge’). Behind the cameras, it is executive produced by Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (‘Bumblebee’) and John Wells (‘Animal Kingdom’). It was also produced by Jeffery Beach (‘Jarhead 3: The Siege’), Phillip Roth (‘Death Race: Beyond Anarchy’), and Ogden Gavanski (‘Cult of Chucky’).

Are you looking forward to checking out ‘DOOM: ANNIHILATION’? What do you think of the first official synopsis for the movie? Are these stills making you feel we could have a fun film on our hands or is it still too little to make a guess? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
