Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) explains the Kree/Skrull War to Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in the newest trailer for ‘Captain Marvel’.  To demonstrate that she isn’t a Skrull, she fries a jukebox with a photon blast, something a Skrull couldn’t do… except that this doesn’t mean anything to human, Fury, who has never seen an alien, or even a human with superhuman abilities.  In fact, in a voice-over, Fury admits “I’ve never seen anything like her.”

Nor have moviegoers.  While Captain Marvel has a human background, she is clearly not entirely mortal, as shown when she bleeds green.  Of course, it was shown in the last trailer, she was given an infusion of Kree blood when she was found by members of that race.

Overall, this new clip is lighter in tone than the dramatic first, and less action-driven than the second.  Overall, fans should expect a well-rounded film that balances all of those elements that make a great superhero flick.

To be honest, ‘Captain Marvel’ has been drowned out by all the buzz surrounding ‘Avengers: Endgame’, but as teased by the post-credits stinger in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, the events of ‘Captain Marvel’ aren’t just a side excursion.  This movie, the first Marvel Studios picture headlined by a solo female character, will lead directly into ‘Endgame’.  How remains to be seen.

Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

‘Captain Marvel’, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, stars Brie Larson, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, Gemma Chan, Clark Gregg, Djimon Hounsou, Samuel L. Jackson, Lashana Lynch, and Lee Pace, and arrives in theaters on March 8, 2019.
