Peter Jackson is no stranger to making fantasy into reality. Jackson, along with his producing partner Philipa Boyens brought to life J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth for the ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy, and again for ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy. The dream team is back to bring another literary saga to life.
‘Mortal Engines,’ based on the book series by author Philip Reeve, is set in a post-apocalyptic world that has been ravaged by a “Sixty Minute War.” The war caused massive geological upheaval, which forced engines and wheels to be installed on major cities, namely London, and the cities were made to dismantle (or eat) each other and steal their resources.
A newly released featurette has Jackson and Boyens calling on the ‘Lord of the Rings’ fanbase to support ‘Mortal Engines.’ Check out the featurette below!
Another featurette from the film features the cities that have been put on engines in an attempt to escape the post-apocalyptic disasters. The cities have class separation from top to bottom, with the wealthiest members of the city at the top and the riff-raff at the bottom. Watch that featurette below!
Hundreds of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event, a mysterious young woman, Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar), emerges as the only one who can stop London — now a giant, predator city on wheels — from devouring everything in its path. Feral, and fiercely driven by the memory of her mother, Hester joins forces with Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan), an outcast from London, along with Anna Fang (Jihae), a dangerous outlaw with a bounty on her head.
‘Mortal Engines’ stars Hugo Weaving, Hera Hilmar, Robert Sheehan, Jihae, Ronan Raftery, Leila George, Patrick Malahide, and Stephen Lang. The film will hit theaters on December 14, 2018.
