On the 12th day of Christmas, Sony gave to me… a PG-13 rated Deadpool movie. Yes, boys and girls under the age of 17, the time has come when you no longer have to buy a ticket for a non-rated R film to sneak into the theater that is playing ‘Deadpool 2 because now the jolly man in the red suit (no, not the one who brings presents down the chimney) will be coming soon in ‘Once Upon a Deadpool,’ a version of ‘Deadpool 2’ that almost all ages will soon be able to enjoy filtered through the prism of childlike innocence. And who else could Deadpool call other than Fred Savage to help exude that childlike innocence (even if the Merc with the Mouth has to kidnap the poor soul to do it).

This watered-down version of ‘Deadpool 2’ will be in theaters for a limited time only but don’t expect a ton of new footage in this film. Most of the new stuff is obviously the scenes between Savage and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) recreating beloved portions of the film ‘The Princess Bride.’ Others, like the one where Deadpool converses with the old couple on the bench seen in the trailer, were deleted scenes from the sequel.

As to why Reynolds finally decided to release a PG-13 version of his film, he explains:

“Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006. I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…”

(From the looks of it, Sony responded with an “As you wish” to that second condition.)

And while you contemplate about whether to buy a ticket for this film, know that for every ticket sold, $1 will go to the charity Fudge Cancer, previously known as F*ck Cancer (the organization has graciously changed their name to be more PG-13 friendly during the 12 days of ‘Once Upon a Deadpool”s release.) That’s enough to make any Grinch’s heart grow three sizes big.

Fred remarked, “while my participation in this film was anything but voluntary, I am happy to learn that Fudge Cancer will be the beneficiary of this shameless cash grab”

So put on the pajamas, grab some hot cocoa, and snuggle in for a bedtime story. Yes, boys and girls, this will be the ‘Deadpool’ fairy tale that gives zero F’s.
