One time MMA fighter, Gina Carano may have more fisticuffs in her future as she has joined the cast of Disney+’s series ‘The Mandalorian’, created by Jon Favreau. Carano joins Pedro Pascal, who will play the lead character, as well as Carl Weathers who has reportedly also signed on. Carano’s character is unknown at this time.
‘The Mandalorian’ is expected to be available when Disney+ launches next fall. The series is said to take place during the time between ‘Return of the Jedi’ and ‘The Force Awakens’ and will “follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.” Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Dave Filoni, and Deborah Chow are all attached to direct at least one episode a piece.
Carano shifted from professional fighting to acting in 2011, co-starring in Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Haywire’ which also starred Ewan McGregor and Michael Fassbender. She was also part of the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise and appeared as the mutant Angel Dust in the first ‘Deadpool’. Earlier this year, she starred in the post-apocalyptic action movie ‘Scorched Earth’.
‘The Mandalorian’ is the first live-action ‘Star Wars’ series ever, but it won’t be the last as Disney+ is also set to deliver a ‘Rogue One’ prequel starring Diego Luna as Cassian Andor. Also in the works for the new streaming service are a series starring Tom Hiddleston as ‘Loki’, an ongoing ‘High School Musical’ series, an animated ‘Monsters Inc.’ series and a live action movie version of ‘Lady & The Tramp’.
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
