The Mandalorian Star Wars Holiday Special

It doesn’t matter if you hated the prequels or ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ almost everyone can agree that the worst parts of the franchise were the holiday specials targeted at kids. Now, a weapon previewed in ‘The Mandalorian‘ which made its way onto social media seems to be inspired directly from the 1978 cartoon which was clearly only made to sell toys and to cash in on ‘Star Wars: A New Hope.’ Due to its horrid plot and poor production value after LucasFilm and “Star Wars” took the special effects industry by storm, it seems unlikely that anything would ever be used from it.

Even George Lucas admitted this one was a bad move and hated it so much he didn’t try to digitally remaster it and remake the film in the process.

As much as everyone hates the film ,we still owe Boba Fett to it who was first introduced here before his big screen appearance in ‘Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.’ How does Fett’s appearance in the Holiday Special tie into ‘The Mandalorian’ you might be wondering?

To start with, showrunner Jon Favreau recently took to Instagram to share a couple of new photos from the upcoming series. One of them specifically stood out as a new weapon that will likely be used on the show:

How exactly does this tie into the animated feature you might be wondering? One Eagle-Eyed sleuth who hasn’t blocked the Holiday Special from his mind from years of therapy pointed out how similar it look to this:

It isn’t likely you can expect a resurgence of the Holiday Special to have it show up as canon or being widely released by the studio because of this weapon, but it is fun to see how even some of the most hated aspects of the franchise can find a way to be used today.

Here is the other image Favreau shared just because you probably want as many looks at the upcoming series as possible. Especially if it may help you burn away the thought that at least one part of it references the first and possibly greatest misstep in the “Star Wars” franchise.

Did you ever think that anything from The Holiday Special would again be used in “Star Wars”? What do you think is in the second image which Favreau put online? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order.
