With ‘Daredevil’ Season 3’s premiere date on the horizon (coming out on October 19th), speculation has begun to fly about what to expect from the 3rd season of the Netflix/ Marvel’s flagship series, spurred on by the cast and crew of the series itself. One such source was none other than the showrunner himself, Erik Oleson, who spoke on the story for the season, and where some of its inspiration came from.

While speaking to ScreenRant, Oleson stated:

“My hope was to draw inspiration from comics – the comics like Born Again and Guardian Devil. There’s certainly moments that resonated for me tonally that I used as inspiration, but [season 3] is an original story. I am not doing a direct translation of any of the comics, I think that would have been a mistake. I want to give the audience what they want, but not in the way they expect it. I want to make sure everybody’s really hooked with an original story where they are deeply invested in the characters this season and understand why the characters behave the way that they behave and do the things that they do and I was very must interested in bringing more contradiction and dimension to some of the characters that we’ve grown to know and love.”

Of course, news that some of the story elements came from the ‘Guardian Devil’ storyline has some fans nervous, as in that storyline, Bullseye, a villain who has yet to make his MCU debut but it is rumored to finally appear in ‘Daredevil’ Season 3, actually kills Karen Page using Daredevil’s own billy-club, a nightmare scenario for our hero, and a scenario that would be heartbreaking if played out in the live-action series. Especially since Karen has become such a strong character in the Netflix MCU, it would be tragic to see her killed but with the news that she would not be reappearing in ‘Punisher’ Season 2, there are many who are worried that her death might have already been written.

Of course, Oleson did say that he is not following any of the storylines from the comics exactly, so nothing is written in stone, so I personally am going to hold onto hope that Karen will survive the season.

What about you? Do you think we could see Daredevil’s world get even darker with the death of Karen? What other elements from ‘Born Again’ or ‘Guardian Devil’ do you think we might see pop up in ‘Daredevil’ Season 3? Feel free to share your theories in the comments section below!
