Fans of ‘Superman‘ comics are likely big supporters of everything Mark Waid with how tied his work is to the Man of Steel. While his work has only appeared in print so far, it sounds like this creator would be open to other mediums if the opportunity ever presented itself. With Waid’s run on the character being one of the best according to many fans it is an exciting notion to consider that he could someday write a movie for the franchise. Not only that, but if asked, Waid already has an idea in mind as to a story that he’d write!
When asked if he would be open to writing a movie Waid stated:
“Sure. I mean, that would never happen. So it’s really easy for me to say ‘Yes.’ But sure. That’d be interesting.
“I’d take a swing at something like that. I don’t know what my story would be. Actually, that’s not true. I know exactly what my story would be. But I can’t give it away. It’s the one Superman story I’ve got in my back pocket that- if we all live long enough- maybe someone will ask me to tell it someday.”
Now, he hasn’t shared what that idea could be, but it is thrilling to speculate as to if it is an original idea or adaptation of a previous story arc.
What Waid doesn’t clarify and he isn’t asked would be if he’d be open to adapting his story to an animated film if that offer came up. We know that DC has had an enormous success on the animation side and it might be a more accessible market for his work to transition to a cinematic adaptation.
