Catwoman

For anyone wondering why we never got to see Michelle Pfeiffer reprise her role as ‘Catwoman’ (aka Selina Kyla) up on the big screen and whether there were ever plans to do just that, it turns out there was once actually a pitch to Warner Bros for that very movie. The news comes to us from John August, a frequent screenwriter for Tim Burton and the the man responsible for writing films like ‘Big Fish,’ ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,’ and ‘Frankenweenie,’ who participated in a Twitter hashtag named #shareyourejections and opened up about the failed spin-off for ‘Catwoman’ that he pitched.

Check it out below:

The whole thing seems fascinating to me, especially the odd choice of having Selina Kyle get ‘Catwoman’ amnesia so early in the film, especially after such an action-packed and seemingly fun opening that would have been very entertaining to watch. Personally, I think it would have driven me insane to see an opening like that, with her at the height of her Catwoman persona, and then have it all stripped away only to slowly come back over the course of the rest of the film where she remembers her power.

Of course, we did eventually get a ‘Catwoman’ film in 2004 with Halle Berry, which most fans remember as one of the worst comic-book movies of all time, so perhaps the time just was not right for ‘Catwoman’ back then. But today is a new day and with all of the female-centric superhero movies coming out, one cannot help but wonder when Warner Bros is going to jump back on the ‘Catwoman’ train and get us another adventure with Selina Kyle. Hopefully, the stigma from the poor Halle Berry version has finally worn off because it would be fun to see the character back up on the big screen again.

What are your thoughts on the matter? Did you like August’s pitch for ‘Catwoman?’ Do you think Warner Bros will bring her back anytime soon? Sound off in the comments below!
