Following a recollection that Evangeline Lilly shared about having to film partially nude scenes for ‘Lost’ and the discomfort she experienced, the producers of that series, Damon Lindelof, J.J. Abrams, Carlton Cuse and Jack Bender issued a joint statement:
“Our response to Evie’s comments in the media was to immediately reach out to her to profoundly apologize for the experience she detailed while working on Lost. We have not yet connected with her, but remain deeply and sincerely sorry. No person should ever feel unsafe at work. Period.”
‘Lost’ lasted for six seasons on ABC, from 2004 until 2010. Lilly portrayed Kate Austen in all 118 episodes. While ‘Lost’ was Lilly’s big break, it seems as though her inexperience worked against her. Here is what Lilly originally recalled about these negative experiences on the ‘Lost’ set:
“In season 3, I’d had a bad experience on set with being basically cornered into doing a scene partially naked, and I felt had no choice in the matter. And I was mortified and I was trembling when it finished. I was crying my eyes out and I had to go on to do a very formidable, very strong scene thereafter.
“In season 4, another scene came up where Kate was undressing and I fought very hard to have that scene be under my control. And I failed to control it again. So I then said, ‘That’s it, no more. You can write whatever you want — I won’t do it. I will never take my clothes off on this show again.’ And I didn’t.”
She has also previously stated that she is not a fan of reunions, so don’t expect her to return for a ‘Lost’ reboot anytime soon. And honestly, while at its height, ‘Lost’ was a major watercooler hit, but by the time it ended, it had lost a lot of its punch and the finale was extremely anticlimactic to a lot of viewers.
Lilly hasn’t really looked back, starring in first ‘The Hobbit’ movies and now Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’. Hopefully, she can now put the past behind her.
