Batman

Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) may have name dropped Bruce Wayne in an episode of ‘Arrow’ last season and there are plans for Gotham City-based Batwoman to guest star in this coming season, with an eye on possibly spinning her off into her own series, but that is as far as things will go.  CW president Mark Pedowitz stated that Batman would not appear in the “Arrowverse.”

“There’s no discussion about a series. Batman already exists in the Arrowverse because last season Oliver Queen mentioned his name at one point. And Batwoman, if the series goes forward, lives in Gotham. There’s no plan at this time to have Batman appear.”

In this video, you can hear Oliver mentioning Bruce Wayne:

It’s possible that Batman may not be available because FOX will be airing the fifth and final season of ‘Gotham’ this coming fall.  Perhaps when that show wraps, The CW could incorporate a Batman cameo, in much the same way that ‘Supergirl’ integrated Superman in its second season, as portrayed by Tyler Hoechlin.  (Who, by the way, earned positive reactions from most viewers and critics.)  Or there may be some other legal factor that prevents Batman or Bruce Wayne from being used.  Or perhaps, Warner Brothers wants to keep the character isolated to the big screen.  That makes a certain amount of sense, but they do have a ‘Flash’ movie starring Ezra Miller in the works, that is not connected to the ongoing ‘Flash’ TV series on The CW and it was just learned that ‘Supergirl’ may also be getting a film, that is likewise unaffiliated with the TV show.

It’s also unclear as to just how long The CW’s DC shows will go on.  They’re still steady performers, but ‘Arrow’ in particular has seen its ratings dwindle somewhat as it goes on.  With ‘Black Lightning’ added to the mix and a potential ‘Batwoman’ series, will The CW end up cutting some of their older shows to make room?

We’ll have to wait and see.  Are you disappointed that Batman won’t show up in the Arrowverse?  Or are you glad?
