I have totally mixed emotions about this but the fantastically musically charged space adventure anime series ‘Cowboy Bebop’ is getting a live-action television show. I absolutely loved this series and the soundtrack and have no idea how they could successfully capture the spirit of the show with actors, but if they’re able to, I’ll be tuning in every week. Marty Adelstein’s Tomorrow studio has partnered with Midnight Radio to produce the series with Sunrise giving full permission for their anime to get a live-action take.

According to Adelstein:

“The animated version has long resonated with audiences worldwide. With the continued, ever growing, popularity of anime, we believe a live action version will have an incredible impact today.”

The original series had a 26-episode run and showed us that the Earth had become uninhabitable, so humanity had fled to their colonized worlds and space stations. The main events from the series took place on the starship Bebop which was piloted by Spike Spiegel who had a very checkered past and ended up being a very complex character as the show progressed. He was partnered with Jet Black who was the muscle and an ex-police officer, Faye Valentine who had amnesia and was also a con artist, a very young hacker named Ed Wong who they got stuck with but couldn’t live without and the corgi Ein who everyone happened to love.

For those who haven’t viewed the anime, it feels as if it inspired pieces of ‘Firefly’ as well as Syfy’s ‘Killjoys.’ Casting and budget will have to be perfect to not just appease fans but be able to remotely capture the spirit of the series so while I want this to be good, I’m pretty much terrified that it is going to fall flat.

Hopefully, Netflix or a premium network like HBO pick this one up.

Do you have any hope that a live-action ‘Cowboy Bebop’ would end up good? Who do you think would be perfect to cast in any of the leading roles? Share your thoughts in the comments below space cowboy!
