Sony Marvel Shows

After ‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse‘ hit it big for Sony Pictures it should come as no surprise that the studio would want to capitalize on the franchise. What is surprising is that some of the shows will end up being live-action. We know that Sony was already planning future films and potential television spinoffs for the animated feature, but now we’re starting to learn how it will all come together.

The news came from this year’s TCA as co-creator Chris Miller shared a bit of the scope that was being planned for the Sony-owned Marvel Characters.

According to Miller,

“We are developing a handful of live-action shows using Sony’s Marvel characters, of which there are like 900 characters. We’re figuring out a way to develop the shows so that each are their own unique experience but are also related.”

Obviously, Miller doesn’t go into detail as to which characters are going to be included, but it does sound like they’re taking a very intense look at what they can put together. He did go on to share that he and co-creator Phil Lord won’t be the only two involved in the creative process either as:

“We’ve been talking to a lot of potential teammates for trying to do something, not like anything else that’s been done on television. It’ll be a little while before it all comes together and is on the air, but I think it is going to be something really special.”

The duo is currently in a five-year contract with Sony Pictures to develop Marvel shows, so one can imagine that they’re anxious to get at least a few of these projects into production sooner than later. Miller would go onto say that “hopefully we’ll know in the next few months where it’ll be and what the schedule will be” which means we might be hearing about at least one of these projects by the end of the year.

Are you looking forward to an interconnected set of Spider-characters coming to the small screen from Sony Pictures? Which characters or stories do you want to see Phil Lord and Chris Miller draw from to make this Spider-Verse a reality? Do you think this expanded approach into live-action spinoffs will at all impact the deal Sony and Marvel Studios has for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and related characters?
