Whenever J.J. Abrams is producing a movie through Bad Robot these days you have to wonder if it is related to the “Cloverfield” universe though I suspect that their upcoming title ‘Aporia’ isn’t. The project is being brought to us in conjunction with Paramount Pictures and was written by Jared Mosche (‘The Ballad of Lefty Brown’) and will also be helming the film. Producing with Bad Robot will be Neda Armian (‘Rachel Getting Married’).
While there aren’t many details quite yet, it is “being described as a grounded sci-fi drama with time-travel elements.” As per usual when it comes to a Bad Robot production, they haven’t released a logline this early in pre-production. If anything, we’ll probably hear about casting long before any details start to surface about the movie as the studio enjoys playing things pretty close to the breast before when their marketing efforts begin.
Mosche is an interesting choice for the film as he made his mark in Hollywood with the Western ‘Dead Man’s Burden’ and both wrote and directed last year’s ‘The Ballad of Lefty Brown” so you have to wonder if any of his apparent enjoyment of Westerns will be part of this film or if he is taking full advantage of the different genre to branch out.
At this time there are no casting details or a release date for the film. With how Bad Robot tends to work, we’re still unsure if their upcoming movie ‘Overlord‘ is part of the Cloverfield movies let alone if this barely announced film could be included. With how ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’ left things, a time travel movie wouldn’t be entirely out of the realm of possibilities for a follow-up.
