rey

While we may never know what J.J. Abrams had in mind for Rey’s parents in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ we’ve just heard from Simon Pegg that the original plan wasn’t to have them be nobodies as was shown in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi.’ Of course, the source of Rey’s history did come from Kylo Ren and I’m not sure if I’d trust what actually came from his lips when it came to Rey. While Abrams has an easy way to show that Kylo was being manipulative in his big reveal when the director wraps up the current trilogy, we could just as easily see his original plan never see the light of day.

What did he have in mind for Rey’s heritage? Simon Pegg wasn’t able to share that, but on a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast he did share:

“Well I know what J.J. kind of intended, or at least what was sort of being chucked around. I think that’s kind of been undone slightly by [The Last Jedi]. I don’t know. I don’t know (laughs). I think Unkar Plutt is Rey’s real father.

“There was some talk of a relevant lineage for her. But I honestly don’t know, and I don’t know if anybody knows. We shall see.”

On the flip side, Rey said that what happened in the movie was “what I was told in the beginning” in an early interview before the film’s release. This quote muddles the water even worse and makes you wonder what actually to believe.

Do you think that J.J. Abrams might still make Rey have a heritage tied to a known Jedi name? Now that the cat is out of the bag, which family do you think Rey was initially related to? Share your thoughts below!
