Well, if you were among the fans of ‘Arrow’ who were unhappy with Willa Holland‘s Thea Queen leaving the series a few episodes back (especially after learning that Roy would be returning to the show as a series regular in Season 7), you may not be pleased with the latest news coming from the titular series of the Arrowverse. It seems Paul Blackthorne, who portrays the staunch one-time Star City Police Chief, now Star City Mayor Quentin Lance, will not be coming back for the 7th season of the show either. It is a heavy blow for long-time viewers as Blackthorne’s character has been around since the beginning, and in a way is the last true anchor/ parental figure in Oliver’s Queen’s life. Losing him will really leave our hero a bit adrift, forcing him to grow up even more than he has been of late.
It will be interesting to see how Quentin Lance exits the show as this season has seen him working to rehabilitate Earth-2 Laurel Lance. Recent story developments have the pair working together behind the main villain Diaz’s back to get Laurel out from under his thumb, right after Quentin learns that she is working for him out of fear much the same way Quentin worked for Damien Darhk back in Season 4.
Could this casting news mean that their alliance is doomed and Diaz will kill Quentin Lance by season’s end? Could that action be what inspires the Black Siren (aka Earth-2 Laurel Lance) to truly turn over a new leaf and try to be the hero Quentin wants her to be? With only a few episodes left in Season 6 we will know soon enough, but regardless of the circumstances, it will be sad to see Paul Blackthorne leave the series. It will be a very different show when ‘Arrow’ returns next fall. With it being the 7th season, that is not necessarily a bad thing as shaking things up might be just what is needed at this point, but I will miss these characters that we have come to know and enjoy over the years as the series moves forward.
