Starz has chosen to end the exploits of zombie-slayer Ash Williams and his kooky pals. Its gory comedy/horror series ‘Ash Vs. Evil Dead’ will air its final episode on April 29. The series was a continuation/spinoff of the ‘Evil Dead’ films, in which Bruce Campbell starred as the chisel-jawed, chainsaw slinging hero and was created by the movies’ producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. Starz ordered a second season before the first episode even premiered in 2015. The current season is its third and as it turns out, its final. While the entire ‘Evil Dead’ franchise has always had a cult following, the show failed to cross over to a wider audience and has seen its ratings dwindle over time.
Starz’ president of programming Carni Zlotnik stated:
“Ash vs. Evil Dead has taken audiences on a wild ride for three seasons thanks to the fantastic performances and creative efforts of Sam, Bruce, Rob, and the entire cast and crew. We are proud to send the show out with a bang … and a splat.”
Star Campbell stated:
“Ash vs. Evil Dead has been the ride of a lifetime. Ash Williams was the role of a lifetime. It was an honor to reunite with Evil Dead partners Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi to give our tireless fans another taste of the outrageous horror/comedy they demanded. I will always be grateful to Starz for the opportunity to revisit the franchise that launched our careers.”
The series finale will air on April 29 at 9pm EST. The plot revolves around Ash and his pals Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) battling a demon invasion centered around Elk Grove, Michigan.
Due to middling ratings, ‘Ash Vs. Evil Dead”s future has been in question for some time now and it seems the cast and crew were prepared for its possible cancellation. Hopefully, with that in mind, they prepared the final episode accordingly and we won’t get another sci-fi favorite that ends on an infuriating cliffhanger. Last month, Campbell declared that should the series be cancelled he would most likely hang up the Ash role for good. This came after he had earlier teased a new movie.
Are you sad to see ‘Ash Vs. Evil Dead’ headed for the grave?
