Warner Brothers has announced that production has begun on ‘Shazam!’ their next superhero flick based on the DC Comics character originally created by C.C. Beck and Bill Parker.  In honor of the occasion, the studio has released an official synopsis.

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out.  In Billy Batson’s
(Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can
turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard.  Still a kid at heart—
inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any
teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them!  Can he fly?  Does he have X-ray vision?
Can he shoot lightning out of his hands?  Can he skip his social studies test?  Shazam sets out to
test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child.  But he’ll need to master these
powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”

David F. Sandberg is directing from a script by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. ‘Shazam!’ is being produced by New Line Cinema in conjunction with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. Production is currently underway at Pinewood Studios Toronto (standing in for Philadelphia).  Peter Safran is producing with Dwayne Johnson, Christopher Godsick, Jeffrey Chernov, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia as executive producers.

The cast includes Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Zachary Levi as Shazam, Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez, Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña, Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfeld, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freedman, Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley, Marta Milans as Rosa Vasquez, and Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana.

‘Shazam!’ will hit theaters on April 5, 2019.
